St. Michael's Hosting Shroud of Turin Exhibit BINGHAMTON, NY---Area residents will have a unique opportunity to explore the mysteries of the Shroud of Turin when an authentic full size replica of the Shroud goes on display at St. Michael's Church, 296 Clinton Street, Binghamton, from Tuesday, April 17 through Friday, April 20. The Shroud of Turin is believed by many biblical and scientific scholars to be the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ, crucified under the reign of Pontius Pilate two centuries ago. Many contend that the radiant light of the Resurrection created the image of the suffering and crucified Jesus on the Shroud. Faithful will have their first look at the Shroud during the Tuesday morning Paschal Divine Liturgy. This will be celebrated by area Orthodox clergy at St. Michael's at 9 AM. The Church will then be open daily Tuesday through Friday for visitation and prayer from 12 noon-1 PM and 7-8 PM. Presentations on the historicity of the Shroud will be offered each evening at 7:30 PM by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Drobena.Fr. Drobena served at Ascension Lutheran in the late 60's and early 70s, and is a pastor at Holy Trinity church of the Slovak Zion Synod in Torrington, CT. Fr. Thomas, a scholar of the historicity of the Shroud, is thrilled to bring this replica of the Shroud to the Binghamton area where he once served as pastor. Two full-length copies of the Shroud will be on display at St. Michael's. One is an exact reproduction of the original in Turin, Italy, and the other is a photo enhancement making it possible to clearly see the image on the cloth. One will be on display in the front of St. Michael's Sanctuary, the other in the Church's Atrium. Fr. James Dutko, pastor, noted his joy in the presence of the Shroud in Binghamton. "This exhibit will afford area residents an opportunity to delve in the mysteries of the Shroud, to contemplate the suffering the one depicted there, and to discover anew the power of God's love. The timing of the presence of the Shroud couldn't be more appropriate since all Christians are now in the Paschal period marking the Resurrection of Jesus Christ."
